This conference will look at a very long-standing and problematic industry from the perspective of contemporary practices, digital tools and machinery. Can we reclaim the knowledge from traditional methods of production? Can we think of alternative production processes that meet our needs and are a suitable answer to the major economic and social challenges facing us?
Experts from EUNIC (EU National Institutes for Culture) countries will help to approach some of these questions and contribute to the following threads:
- Traditional crafts × digital
- Biomaterials
- Zero-waste & upcycling
- Clothing for healthcare
On 6 and 7 December, there will be four work sessions at Green Fabric and iMAL dedicated to these threads, led by teams of artists and creators. The event will conclude with a conference on 8 December, when each of the four teams will report back. After a Q&A session, speakers will present their work and participate in panel discussions on the four threads.
The event will be in English and in-person. The work sessions will be documented and the presentations on the last day will be streamed. Brunch with the invited artists/designers will be laid down before the presentations.
