The ECESP Coordination Group congratulates the new College of Commissioners on their appointments at this pivotal moment for the European Union. The group has written to the commissioners, welcoming them to this transformative journey. It offers its support to stay the course with the Green Deal goals as the circular economy will play a vital cross-sectoral role in achieving them and delivering on strategic autonomy.
The Coordination Group is excited about the opportunity to work with the Commissioners to advance the EU’s circular economy agenda, which aligns closely with the Green Deal and Europe’s long-term sustainability goals. The circular economy agenda, the Green Deal and the Clean Industrial Deal will all come together to speed up Europe’s transition to a regenerative and sustainable economy.
What is the ECESP again?
The ECESP is a joint initiative launched by the European Economic and Social Committee and the European Commission in 2017. It is instrumental in enhancing dialogue with stakeholders and staying abreast of their activities. This proximity is key for strengthening the Commission’s work on advancing the circular economy agenda.
The platform brings together policy makers, businesses, civil society, social enterprises and academics with a view to driving practical solutions, sharing knowledge and creating synergies across sectors. It serves as a bridge between European institutions and stakeholders. Due to its unique bottom-up approach and history of working closely with the European Economic and Social Committee, the platform strongly advocates for incorporating the circular economy community’s views into the EU legislative process.
With its extensive network of contributors from all corners of Europe and beyond, the ECESP is a prime example of fruitful collaboration, showcasing shared commitment to a circular future. As a platform created by stakeholders for stakeholders, it has a knowledge-sharing dimension and contributors can submit their news, good practices and events to empower others by disseminating innovative solutions and fostering cross-sectoral learning.
And the Coordination Group?
The platform’s Coordination Group shapes its activities and translates circular ideas into scalable actions. With a mandate running until autumn 2025, the Coordination Group brings together 24 members selected from civil society organisations, business and trade union representatives, think tanks, research centres and public bodies that have a stake in the circular economy. They recently highlighted the critical importance of advancing the circular economy and maintaining ambitious commitments in a public Joint Declaration.
