The European Tyre Recycling Association aims to make tyre recycling an independent, multi-sectoral industry involved in activities which protect the environment and create new businesses and jobs.

Each year, it holds a conference on tyre recycling; this year’s conference will look back over the last three decades, considering the materials used and developments in this industry. Tyre manufacturers initially disregarded recycled tyre materials owing to the fact that recycled rubber was not suitable for use in new tyres. However, things have changed and rubber is now ranked as a critical raw material. This has forced tyre manufacturers to rethink their stance on various outputs of the tyre recycling sector, such as fine rubber powder, devulcanised rubber and recovered carbon black.

  • The workshop on Tuesday aims to stimulate public administrations and to create synergies among various EU-funded projects on recycled tyre materials.
  • The plenary sessions on Wednesday will focus on critical challenges. These include reduced availability of end-of-life tyres for recycling owing to uncontrolled exports to the global south, the  public works market and the Green Deal. The sessions will consider future EU policy and the positions of stakeholders. Will tyre manufacturers be able to use more recyclates?
  • Spotlight on Innovation will give an overview of new product trends and developments.
  • Thursday will explore various technologies for upcycling rubber for use in new mixes for the industry.
  • The last session will be on EU programmes, cooperation and funding opportunities. There will also be plenty of networking opportunities.

More than 100 delegates from the public and private sectors will be present. All of them are involved in the tyre recycling and related industries. Some are active in tyre processing, others use the materials in a broad array of products and applications, and still others represent governments or quasi-government agencies or bodies, research and education institutions or financial service activities.

You may submit your abstract by 31 January, in fields varying from opportunities in the circular economy to working with automotive recyclers.

This event will take place on 25-27 March at Le Louise Hotel in Brussels.
