UNEP and UN-Habitat want to hear about zero waste good practices!
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) have opened a call for submissions of good practices focusing on zero waste initiatives. Do you have a business model, method, process or technique that’s making a difference in reducing waste within the fashion and textile sector? If so, fill in this questionnaire and send it to this email address with the subject title “Zero Waste Good Practices in Fashion and Textiles” by 12 February.
Upcycling design approaches, waste-reducing technologies and repair practices are examples of what they’re looking for. Successful submissions will demonstrate sustainability, accountability, replicability, scalability, innovation, inclusivity and technology applicability, as well as a focus on minimising environmental impact and promoting circular economy principles.
The call aligns with the International Day of Zero Waste on 30 March, facilitated by UNEP and UN-Habitat. For 2025, this day will focus on fashion and textiles, shedding light on the environmental and social challenges posed by this sector’s linear business model and practices at large, and the resulting overproduction and overconsumption. The goal is to identify solutions that can be scaled up within and replicated to other sectors.
The aim of spotlighting good practices is to inspire global action, foster informed decision making and encourage a collective commitment to a zero-waste future.
