The European market for recycled material has huge potential. For remanufactured products alone, the market will grow from EUR 31 billion in 2022 to an estimated value of EUR 100 billion by 2030, creating up to 500 000 new jobs. However, the EU’s progress on the circular economy and related investments are hindered by lack of scale and a unified market for recycled content.
The European Commission wants to stimulate the supply of quality recyclates and the demand for secondary raw materials through a Circular Economy Act (CEA) and additional initiatives such as a Critical Raw Materials Centre and Trans-Regional Circularity Hubs. Effective measures and incentives, common standards and a reliable regulatory framework would accelerate the development of markets for recyclates and services like reuse systems, refurbishment and repair. The objective is to make 24% of materials circular by 2030.
Ecopreneur.eu, the European Sustainable Business Federation, and the German Sustainable Business Association (BNW) will organise a parliamentary breakfast hosted by Gerben-Jan Gerbrandy MEP to facilitate the dialogue between business and policymakers on this crucial topic.
They invite representatives from business and industry, EU institutions, civil society and EU Member States to discuss policy measures and mechanisms required to boost the use of recycled content, reuse and innovative waste management practices in a European circular economy.
Speakers:
- Gerben-Jan Gerbrandy MEP
- Anna Cavazzini MEP, chair of the European Parliament’s internal market committee
- Florian Flachenecker, Taskforce Leader for the CEA in the European Commission’s Directorate-General for the Environment
- Konstantin Litke, Policy Director of BNW
- Moderated by Arthur ten Wolde, Executive Director of Ecopreneur.eu, with questions from the audience.
This event will take place in English at 08:15 – 09:30 CEST on 12 June. Participants can attend online or in person at the European Parliament in Brussels.
