The bioeconomy is a hot topic these days, right up at the top of policy agendas. It involves using renewable natural resources as a raw material. The circular bioeconomy introduces circularity into this concept: using what would otherwise be thrown away, using spent biological resources to regenerate ecosystems and minimising waste.
The ECESP website has a good selection of circular bioeconomy-themed content. This series will shine a spotlight on it.
Circular bioeconomy concept: e-learning platform covering the (circular) bioeconomy
The CEE2ACT project aims to empower Central and Eastern European countries to develop circular bioeconomy strategies. It has National Bioeconomy Hubs established in 10 countries across the EU.
A set of digital tools has been developed to build capacities in the bioeconomy, circular and otherwise, and diversify sources of knowledge. The e-learning platform, developed by project partner Geonardo, offers interactive training divided into four thematic modules designed to promote the bioeconomy and sustainable governance.
- Module 1 introduces the key concepts of circular bioeconomy in Europe.
- Module 2 focuses on bioeconomy for and from civil society organisations and individuals, providing tailored content and practical recommendations.
- Module 3 targets private sector actors – businesses, associations and investors – with resources to support bioeconomy integration.
- Module 4 addresses the needs of research institutions and public authorities, offering guidance on designing and implementing bioeconomy strategies and roadmaps.
Each module includes interactive exercises, downloadable materials and additional online resources. You need to register to get access. The platform is accessible in 11 languages. An Open Forum allows users to interact, while the “Ask the Expert” feature lets users submit questions directly to CEE2ACT consortium experts.
