On 24 April, the European Commission launched the LIFE Programme Calls for Proposals 2025. This year, EUR 600 million is available to support projects on nature conservation, environmental protection, climate action and the clean energy transition. EUR 73 million has been allocated to circular economy and quality of life projects.
One of the calls for proposals on the circular economy focuses on circular business models.
Whilst product specific rules such as the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) will stimulate the market for sustainable products, the uptake of circular business models is often challenging. Further support is clearly needed to help businesses, particularly SMEs and micro-enterprises, overcome the challenges of transitioning to a circular economy.
A call for proposals on Support for Circular Business Model Mainstreaming – Boosting the single market for sustainable products and services has therefore been launched.
Its core objectives are to:
- Facilitate the successful transition of economic actors towards economically viable, sustainable circular business models, including but not limited to ESPR-relevant products/sectors such as textiles or furniture. This will be done by means of dedicated capability building, targeted advisory approaches, facilitation of knowledge creation/sharing and best practice exchange with relevant stakeholders.
- Mainstream economically viable, sustainable circular business models and linked innovative approaches, as well as targeted support for small mid-caps (SMCs), SMEs and micro-enterprises.
