Textile waste has emerged as one of the most pressing challenges in Europe’s transition to a circular economy. Growing volumes of discarded textiles, new EU requirements on Extended Producer Responsibility and eco-design, and increasing public awareness of the environmental and social impacts of the fashion industry have pushed the issue to the forefront of the European policy agenda.
This #EUCircularTalk will present the key findings of Generation Climate Europe’s report on textile waste in the European Union. The report explores the EU’s evolving policy and legislative framework for textile circularity, local implementation challenges, environmental and social justice considerations, and the role of young people in driving the transition towards a circular textile economy.
During the session, the report’s authors will talk about its main findings and recommendations, after which there will be an open discussion with participants to gather feedback and identify follow-up.
This event aims to raise awareness of the challenges linked to textile waste, provide an overview of recent EU policy developments in this field, and showcase practical examples from across the textile value chain. The discussion will also highlight opportunities to advance textile circularity while fostering dialogue and collaboration among policymakers, industry stakeholders and civil society.
