More than 90 % of biodiversity loss is due to resource extraction and processing. To address biodiversity loss, we will need to rethink our production and consumption systems. The transition to a circular economy offers an actionable framework for such transformative change.

IUCN, the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, and partners, have been strengthening the linkages between the circular economy and biodiversity through a series of reports on this as yet underexplored relationship. This session The circular economy as a crucial tool for biodiversity & climate on 12 December 2022 at 15:30 – 16:30 Montreal time (21:30 – 22:30 CET) will showcase the outcomes of this work and discuss how we may use this alternative innovative economic model to achieve the targets of the post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework.
