FOREST (Advanced lightweight materials FOr eneRgy Efficient StrucTures) aims to provide new and innovative green composites for sustainable and safe transport applications.

Specifically, the project will develop novel lightweight multifunctional biocomposites as a competitive alternative to conventional composites. They are working on new chemical reactions based on bio-based materials (reactive and nonreactive polymeric systems and fire-retardant additives) in combination with fully recycled carbon fibre and Electromagnetic Interference particles.

The project, which runs from December 2022 to May 2026, has received funding under the Horizon Europe programme. They are now setting up an Advisory Policy Framework Working Group to develop impactful, industry-wide recommendations for EU legislators, fostering innovation and sustainability. To ensure a well-rounded and comprehensive approach, they are inviting professionals and experts to join them.

They are seeking stakeholders with expertise in the following areas:

  • Legal experts and lawyers: To address regulatory, compliance and policy aspects crucial to adopting innovative materials and technologies.
  • Professional associations and standardisation authorities: To ensure alignment with existing standards and facilitate smooth integration.
  • Academic and research communities: To contribute cutting-edge research and scientific insights that fuel innovation.
  • Large corporations and SMEs: To bring practical, market-focused insights, ensuring solutions are scalable and commercially viable.
  • Polymers/composites end users and bio-based industry representatives: To provide real-world input on user needs and sustainability criteria.
