For strategic purposes, the European Commission established a list of Critical Raw Materials at EU level, which is being reviewed every 3 years.

The list provides a factual tool to support EU policy development and is also used when negotiating trade agreements or seeking to eliminate trade distortions. It helps identify investment needs and guides EU’s research and innovation pursuits.

The 2020 EU list of Critical Raw Materials includes 30 materials which reach or exceed thresholds for both economic importance and supply risk.
